simple solution to the rwby whitewashing issue:
just draw the character as they are. If the character is a poc, color them as a poc. why is that so hard?
Or…just let people draw what they want? They’re not doing it for you, why do you think you have the right…
Nobody’s fanart is going to change the representation of the characters in the show. And it’s not like we’re even talking about a huge wave of lots of artists all treating Emerald like she’s canon white. As far as I’m aware, one artist did a single picture without looking at reference and gave her pale skin. That’s it. You act like people are out to erase you but they’re not.
And I think a lot of things that people do with their art is shitty. But I know that what they do with their art isn’t my business, so I stay out of it. If I enjoy it, I’ll let them know, and I’ll share it so other people can see it and enjoy it, too. The stuff that I don’t like? I ignore. And if it really bothers me to see it in the tags, I block the people who post it.
Just because you claim status as an oppressed minority, or claim to speak on their behalf, doesn’t give you the right to be the judge of what people can or can’t draw and share online.
